SPECTATORS
for parents: how to watch this game well
THE RHYTHM
One class per week, Wednesdays 8:45-10:15, starting Aug 19. Reading before class, a small build or assignment after, pushed to the student's GitHub. Steady beats brilliant.
THE GEAR
A laptop that reaches class every week, a modern browser, the free VS Code editor, and a free GitHub account. The textbook is free and provided. Reliable internet matters; arrange campus WiFi clearance or a hotspot early.
HOW TO HELP
Ask to be shown, not told: a two-minute demo of this week's build teaches twice. The weekly Side Quests are designed to be done together, no experience needed.
THE MILESTONES
Fall static-site project (Weeks 14-15), written midterm before winter break (W16, Dec 9), a semester of JavaScript, then the Battleship capstone and showcase (Weeks 30-34).
THE TREASURE HUNTS
Eleven times this year a puzzle page opens on the class site: five or six questions from that week's material guarding a badge letter. The badges assemble into the keystone that opens the year-end finale. It's review, disguised as loot.
